“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”

L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables

In the mountains of southern California there is a lake with an island in its midst. Outside this island a majority of trees were consumed in a forest fire in 2003 (The infamous Cedar Fire).   Many of the trees had stood 200-300 or more years. But on the lake’s island you can still walk through a landscape of beautiful ancient oak and pine trees. On a fall day, as I walked the island’s edges, I came upon this spot-  a still standing glorious ancient survivor.  Autumn perfection – Fall color surrounds, the air is crisp and clear, migratory birds call above and the sun rests on the horizon.

    1. Thanks so very much. For me/us as well. It’s the most perfect time. The sun sits at just the right angle to illustrate the beauty of every nuance of the world. Like being in a twilight state. The weather is perfectly balanced and converses with itself not quite deciding if it wishes to be summer or winter. I adore it and hence the photo appeared one day as an expression.!

  1. Thank you for posting this. Hope the wildfires are not affecting you. Calif’s a big place, but the tragedy appears huge, too. October ‘s late for us this year, warm and dry, more like our old home in New Orleans this time of year. Climare change can be disorienting, but at least we are not on fire this year. And thanks for the reblog. It’s always good to find new viewers & readers. Looking forward to following your projects.

    1. Lovely to hear from you. I instantly fell in love with your sensibilities and blog. Thanks for taking the time to visit me and comment. The fires are far north of me this time. Tomorrow we get Santa Ana winds and that is a recipe for potential trouble. But today it is sunny and lovely and so I am reveling in it. Again thanks for your kind words.

    1. James, you are most kind to stop by and leave such a thoughtful comment! This beautiful spot is just a short distance from my home and is truly magical. Fall for me is also my favorite time of year – when everything is so softly expressed in the fullness of its maturation. Wishing you prosperity and productivity in your endeavors! – Douglas
