“Free to Wander Wherever They Choose”

“Elsewhere the sky is the roof of the world;

but here the earth was the floor of the sky.”

― Willa Cather, Death Comes for the Archbishop

One and one-half wandering Jews
Free to wander wherever they choose
Are traveling together
In the Sangre de Christo
The Blood of Christ Mountains
Of New Mexico
On the last leg of a journey
They started a long time ago
The arc of a love affair
Rainbows in the high desert air
Mountain passes
Slipping into stone
Hearts and bones

    1. Thanks Henry!. For nearly 50 years I’ve come and gone and returned again to this part of the world. There is a quality of light here unlike any I’ve ever encountered. A place where time seems irrelevant. That quality is why I always want to return to this place far from the vexatious multitudes doing ‘important things that matter’, thankfully without me. Your recent post by the way is a knockout! Be well. 🙂 Douglas

      1. The last time I road the Tour de Taos was in the 90’s. I finished 7th overall. I forget the time. That same year I finished the Tour de Tucson’s 111 mile race in 4:43; however, that was only good enough for to me finish in the top 20. I was riding domestique for Kent Bostick. He and the other top riders finished 10 to 15 minutes ahead of me.
